MTNZone

This exciting product innovation is a first from the MTN Group and is currently being implemented across the Group. MTN Zone is an innovative price plan that offers variable discounts on MTN-to-MTN calls depending on the time of day and location.

Dynamic Tariff (or Discount) is a service that has been introduced by MTN in association with Ericsson and aims to achieve the following:

reduce over utilisation of the network during the peak calling periods,
offer specific subscriber discounts,
introduce a new communication mechanism (via cell broadcast) and
change subscriber behaviour (calling patterns, ARPU and loyalty).

Subscribers benefit by constantly referring to the cell broadcast functionality on their cellphone. The cell broadcast mechanism will communicate a discount that is applicable to any subscribers ‘attached’ to that base station for the duration of their call and registration, on the Dynamic Tariff price plan. With discounted tariffs being available at any time of the day, subscribers are forced to be more reliant on the network to benefit from reduced call charges.

This dependency aims to

build loyalty to the MTN network (reducing SIM swaps or migrations to the competitor) and
change subscriber calling behaviour and spend patterns whilst allowing subscribers more time to connect with friends and family.
